Youri Tielemans is a Belgian football player, the central midfielder from Anderlecht. He joined the Belgian club at age of 5, and represented them at Under 15, Under 16 and Under 21 level. In 2013, shortly after turning 16, he had his league debut and became the fourth youngest player in the history of Anderlecht. Three months later, he debuted in the Champions League against Olympiakos and became the third youngest player in the competition’s history.
Due to his top performances for Anderlecht, Tielemans has been already scouted by Manchester City, Arsenal and Tottenham. However, his parents want him to finish school in Belgium. Therefore, most probably he won’t move from Brussels for a few more seasons.
Only at the age of 17, he’s already compared to Vincent Kompany, the Belgian who currently plays for and captains Manchester City and the Belgium national team. No doubt, that Tielemans is moving upwards on his path to stardom, and has all the chances to play among the best defenders, if he stays focused on fulfilling his massive potential.
Some of Tielemans’ main strengths are his technique and vision. He proved on numerous occasions his ability to pick a defense-splitting pass when given space on the ball. Also, thanks to his strength and technical skills, Tielemans is capable of beating any adversary in the center of the field and open up a spot for himself between the lines.
A weakness noticed by others, to which he admits himself is over-ambition that complicates the decision making in the game sometimes. “I used to score a lot in the youth team but for the seniors, I still have to find the right balance between my defensive work and my offensive contribution” says young Tielemans.
Even though Belgium has plenty of talented midfielders, who could rock the Euro 2016, Tielemans has all chances to promote himself on the international arena and awaken the wider public’s attention and interest.
We wish him luck!
